Leonardo Golubovic

Leonardo Golubovic obtained his graduate physics degrees from the University of Belgrade in 1987. After postdoctoral fellowships at the University of Pennsylvania, UCLA, and Caltech, he joined the West Virginia University in 1992, where he is a Professor of physics. He held visiting positions at Harvard University, 1998-1999, and at Ludwig Maximillians Universty, 2002. In 2002, Golubovic was awarded Marko Jaric Prize for Outstanding Results in Physics. He was named Fellow of the American Physical Society in 2005 with the citation “For seminal contributions to the theory of condensed matter system including prediction and elucidation of the properties of novel partially ordered phases in liquid crystal elastomers and DNA-lipid membrane complexes.” Golubovic’s general interests are in statistical physics and nonlinear dynamics with special emphasis on analytical and computational investigations of the structure of liquid crystals, superconductors, biomembranes, complex fluids, amorphous solids, fracture nucleation, growing interfaces, epitaxial growth, semiflexible polymers.
