Vincenzo M. Di Ciommo
Vincenzo M. Di Ciommo was born in 1949 and received his M.D. degree (summa cum laude) from the School of Medicine of the University of Rome, Italy in 1973, where he received his postgraduate degrees in internal medicine and in digestive diseases. He passed the national examination for Consultant positions in both disciplines. He also passed the examination of the American Education Council for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG). After receiving courses at the Summer School of Epidemiology, Johns Hopkins University, Md, USA, he obtained the M.S. degree in epidemiology from London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, UK. Dr. Di Ciommo has worked as a Registrar at the United Hospitals of Rome in Medical Departments and in Medical Directorates (for management research) till 1983 when he moved to the Bambino Gesù Children’s Hospital, Rome, USA where he implemented an Adolescent Medicine Outpatient Clinic as a Senior Registrar. In 1994, he was also responsible for the implementation of the administrative database of the hospital and of its application to research. He therefore moved to the research branch of the hospital to create a unit of epidemiology, involved in methodology of clinical research in pediatrics. Dr. Di Ciommo teaches epidemiology at the University of Rome and the University of Nostra Signora del Buon Consiglio (Tirana, Italy). He has published book chapters and papers in various fields such as clinical epidemiology (adolescent medicine, gastroenterology, and infectious diseases) and health services research. He is a Member of the Italian Association of Epidemiology and of the Cochrane Italian Centre.
