Fu Chang received B.A. degree in philosophy from National Taiwan University in 1973, the M.S. degree in mathematics from North Carolina State University in 1978, and the Ph.D. degree in mathematical statistics from Columbia University in 1983. He worked as an Assistant Professor at the Department of Applied Mathematics, Operations Research, and Statistics, State University of New York at Stony Brook (1983-1984), and he was a Member of Technical Staff at Bell Communications Research, Inc. (1984-1986) and at AT&T Bell Laboratories (1986-1990). He joined the Institute of Information Science as an Associate Research Fellow in 1990. His current research activities are focused on document analysis and recognition, pattern recognition, and machine learning.
