Carlos Romero is currently a Professor of economics at the Technical University of Madrid, Madrid, Spain. He has written 9 books in Spanish on agricultural economics, environmental economics, and multiple criteria decision making. He is also the author of the following books: Multiple Criteria Analysis for Agricultural Decisions (with T. Rehman, Elsevier 1989, second edition 2003), Handbook of Critical Issues in Goal Programming (Pergamon Press, 1991), and Multiple Criteria Decision Making and its Economic Applications (with E. Ballestero, Kluwer, 1998). Dr. Romero has published more than 180 papers, 80 of them in ISI journals and has supervised 20 Ph.D. dissertations. He was a Guest Coeditor of a special issue of Agricultural Systems (1993) and of two volumes of Annals of Operations Research (2000) devoted to mathematical models for the management of natural resources. He has recently coedited the volume Handbook of Operations Research in Natural Resources (with A. Weintraub, T. Bjorndal, and R. Epstein, Springer, 2007). In 1994, He received the Research Award of the Technical University of Madrid, in 2001 the National Prize of Economics and the Environment, in 2003 the Distinguished Service Award given by the Spanish Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Fisheries, and in 2006 the Georg Cantor Award bestowed by the International Society on Multiple Criteria Decision Making. Moreover, he is a Fellow of the Operational Research Society and of the World Academy of Productivity Science, and he was a Member of the Executive Committee of the International Society on Multiple Criteria Decision Making. His research has generated around 900 external citations in the international literature according to the ISI journals database, with a “Sharpen h Index” of 16.
