Antonio Chella

A. Chella was born in Florence on March 4, 1961. Currently, he lives in Palermo. He graduated in electronic engineering in 1988 at the University of Palermo, Italy. In 1993, he received the Ph.D. degree in electronic and computer engineering defending a thesis on “Neural network architecture for artificial vision”. From 1992 to 1998, he has been an Assistant Professor and from 1998 to 2001, an Associate Professor in computer engineering at the University of Palermo. From 2001, he is a Full Professor in robotics at the same University. From 2001 to 2007, he was the Coordinator of the course of studies in computer engineering of the University of Palermo. From 2007, he is the Director of the Department of Computer Engineering of the University of Palermo. Professor Chella coordinated several research project funded by MUR, ASI, ENEA. From 2003, he is the Coordinator of the Palermo Unit of the EURON European Excellence Networks on Robotics. In 2006, he organized in Palermo the “EUROS06”, the European Symposium on Robotics of the EURON Network. In 2007, he organized in Arlington, VA the AAAI Fall Symposium on AI and Consciousness sponsored by the Association for Advancement of Artificial Intelligence. Research interests of Professor Chella mainly concern: machine consciousness for robotics, cognitive architectures for robotics, multirobot coalition formation, neural Networks for artificial vision, and robotics. Professor Chella is author or coauthor for more than 200 papers published on international peer-reviewed journals or conference proceedings.
