Hong Shiee Lai

Shiee Lai obtained the M.D. degree (1978) from College of Medicine, National Taiwan University and the Ph.D. degree (1991) from Graduate Institute of Clinical Medicine, National Taiwan University. Lai currently works as Chairman and Professor at Department of Surgery, College of Medicine, National Taiwan University Hospital. Lai also serves as Chief of Division of Pediatric Surgery, NTUH (1992–to date) and a Chairman of Medical Educational Department, NTUH (2008–to date). Lai is a Publication Committee Member of Pacific Association of Pediatric Surgeons (2008–to date). Lai received several awards including Outstanding Poster Award, 30th ESPEN, Florence, Italy (2008), Distinguished Teacher Award, College of Medicine, NTU, Taiwan (2005), and Takemi Taro Best Award, Association of Medical Doctors, Taiwan (1996). His research interests are gene-control pathways and nature mechanism for liver regeneration. Lai has discovered many genes and mRNA concerned about immunity, angiogenesis, and apoptosis having significant changes which parallel the DNA synthetic rate and DNA contents during early stage of liver regeneration after 70% partial hepatectomy.
