Henk C.S. Wallenburg
Henk C.S. Wallenburg was born in The Netherlands in 1938. He received his M.D. and Ph.D. degrees from the Free University in Amsterdam in 1961 and 1971, respectively. He specialized in obstetrics and gynecology at the Free University. In 1971, he was appointed Assistant Professor of obstetrics and gynecology at the University of Pittsburgh, USA. In 1973, he became Associate Professor, and in 1978 Professor and Director of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Erasmus University of Rotterdam. In 1999, he retired from the Erasmus University to become Professor and Dean of the College of Medicine and Health Sciences of the Sultan Qaboos University in Oman. He returned to The Netherlands in 2007 and currently holds an honorary professorship in obstetrics and gynecology at the Erasmus University Rotterdam. His clinical and research interests are in the management of pregnant women with chronic internal disease such as diabetes mellitus, autoimmune and renovascular disease, hypertensive disorders of pregnancy, and intensive care management in obstetrics. He is a member of a number of editorial boards and serves as a reviewer of various scientific journals. He published over 300 scientific articles, reviews and book chapters as an author or coauthor. He has received various honors, including an honorary Doctorate in Sciences, the Fellowship of the British Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, and the Chesley Award for Distinguished Research into Hypertension in Pregnancy.
