Viktor A. Safonov

Viktor A. Safonov graduated from Department of Electrochemistry, Faculty of Chemistry, Moscow State University, 1969. He was a Junior Scientific Researcher, 1969–1976, an Associate Professor, 1976–1992. He did scientific work in Tokyo Institute of Technology, in 1980-1981, and was a Leading Scientific Researcher in 1992–2000, a Professor (since 1994), Principal Scientific Researcher (since 2000), Candidate of chemical sciences, 1973, Doctor of chemical sciences, 1991. His main scientific interests and contributions are theoretical problems of metal corrosion including investigations of passivation processes, corrosion in organic and water-organic media, mechanism of multistep metal dissolution reactions, double electrical layer structure at solid electrodes (including binary alloys) in aqueous and nonaqueous solutions, initial oxidation of metals, chemisorption of ions and molecules at electrodes, electrodeposition of crystallographically amorphous metals and alloys. Safonov is the author of more than 200 papers, the Executive Editor-in-Chief of journal Elektrokhimiya (Russian Journal of Electrochemistry), Member of Scientific Council on Electrochemistry (Russian Academy of Sciences), Deputy Chairman of the Department of Electrochemistry, Faculty of Chemistry, Moscow State University.
