Martin K. Safo holds a PhD degree. He is an Associate Professor of Medicinal Chemistry at the Institute for Structural Biology and Drug Discovery, Department of Medicinal Chemistry, School of Pharmacy, Virginia Commonwealth University. Dr. Safo obtained his BS degree (1985) at the University of Cape Coast, Cape Coast, Ghana. He obtained his PhD degree (1991) at the University of Notre Dame, Notre Dame, IN, USA. His areas of expertise include X-ray crystallography of macromolecules, hemoglobin-based drug design to treat sickle cell disease or ischemic-related diseases, and mechanism and regulation of vitamin B6 metabolism.
