Snezhana Georgieva Gocheva-Ilieva
Snezhana Georgieva Gocheva-Ilieva was born on February 7, 1950. She received her Ph.D. degree in computational mathematics and physics in 1981 from Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, Ukraine, with a thesis entitled “high order accuracy finite difference schemes on infinite domains” under the supervision of Academician of Ukrainian Academy of Sciences, Professor DSc Vladimir L. Makarov. She also obtained her M.S. and B.S. degrees in computational mathematics from Sofia University, Sofia, Bulgaria. She serves as a Professor of mathematics at the Department of Applied Mathematics and Modeling, Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics, Plovdiv University, Plovdiv, Bulgaria. In addition, she has served as a Scientific Secretary of the Scientific Council at the Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics (from 2000 to 2010) and Vice Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics (from 2007 to 2011). Her research focuses on mathematical modeling and simulation in plasma and laser physics and engineering, finite difference methods for ordinary and partial differential equations (singular problems), applied computational statistics, scientific computing, and innovation technologies in mathematics education. She has published over 110 scientific papers, 2 monographs, and 10 textbooks for students. Gocheva‐Ilieva acts as the supervisor of 9 Ph.D. degree students (3 in applied mathematics, 5 in computer science, and 1 in education in information technology); 3 of them successfully defended their Ph.D. degree theses.
