Satyanarayanan R. Chakravarthy

Indian Institute of Technology Madras, India

Satyanarayanan R. Chakravarthy was born in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India, in 1968. He received his B.Tech. degree in aerospace engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras, India, in 1991. He proceeded to obtain his M.Tech. degree in aerospace engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology, Ga, USA, in 1992, and his Ph.D. degree from there in 1995. After a brief postdoctoral stint at Georgia Tech, he joined the Faculty of Aerospace Engineering at IIT Madras in 1997, where he is currently a Professor. His doctoral focused on the role of leading edge diffusion flames and the influence of surface layer processes on them in composite solid propellants. He has subsequently been working on combustion instability and oscillatory combustion of leading edge flames and premixed flames, both by means of experimental combustion/flow diagnostics and developing theoretical formulations that are solved by advanced computational methods. His other interests are in producing nanoaluminium, metal combustion, and combustion related to aerospace propulsion.
