Lefteris Bourithis is Melt Shop Manager at Halyvourgiki Inc., Athens, Greece. He received the Mining and Metallurgy Engineer degree with major in metallurgy in 1998, from the School of Mining and Metallurgy Engineering of the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) and earned the Ph.D. title in the field of materials science and metallurgy from the same university in 2003. Bourithis started his industrial career at 2004 as process and refractory engineer in the Halyvourgiki Steel Works facility and he was promoted to Melt Shop Manager in the last quarter of 2007. Over the last fourteen years, he has gained an extensive research experience in materials characterization, heat treatment of steel, corrosion and tribological properties of metallic, composite materials and coatings, welding and surfacing, and fracture analysis. He has published 22 refereed papers in international journals, 8 papers in international conferences, and 20 papers in national journals and conferences. From 1998–2004 he has worked as researcher in two European (Brite Euram) programs for developing high speed steels (HSS) and multimaterial tooling for extrusion and one national program of NTUA dedicated to industrial materials failure resolution. From 2005 to 2007, he was a Postdoc Researcher in the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering of NTUA for developing chemical sensors with CVD technique. In 2009 he was a Lecturer of materials phase transformation at the School of Mining & Metallurgical Engineering of NTUA. He is teaching the electrochemical behavior of dental materials at the School of Dentistry of the University of Athens from 2008 to present. In 2004 and 2005, the Hellenic Society of Endodontics awarded him for his published scientific work on corrosion of dental materials. His biography is included in the Marquis Who’s Who of Emerging Leader 2007; Who’s Who in the World 2009, 2010, and 2011; Who’s Who in Science and Engineering 2011-2012. He is a regular reviewer for papers submitted to the Journal of Materials Processing Technology and the Surface and Coatings Technology published by Elsevier.
