Luigi Gennari
Luigi Gennari was born in Siena in 1968. He received his M.D. degree at the University of Siena, Siena, Italy, in June 1993, an advanced degree in endocrinology and metabolic diseases at the University of Florence, Italy, in December 1998, and a Ph.D. degree in endocrinology in March 2003. Since October 1, 2002, Gennari has served as an Assistant Professor of internal medicine at the Metabolic Disease Unit, Department of Internal Medicine, Endocrine-Metabolic Sciences, and Biochemistry of the University of Siena. In 1999, he received the Premio Mario Carrozzo Award from the Italian Society of Osteoporosis and in 2002 the Premio Angelo Caniggia Award from the Italian Society of Osteoporosis, Mineral Metabolism, and Skeletal Diseases. In 2000, he received the First IOF-Servier Young Investigator Research Fellowship from the International Osteoporosis Foundation and in 2002 the Young Investigator Award for Innovative Research from the International Osteoporosis Foundation. In 2004, Dr. Gennari was the recipient of the American Society for Bone and Mineral Research (ASBMR) Young Investigator Award. In Autumn 2004, he was appointed as a Member of the Advisory Medical Panel of the Paget Foundation. In 2005, he was the recipient of the Forum in Bone and Mineral Research 2005 Award, and in 2009, he was the recipient of the John G. Haddad, Jr. Research Award of the Paget Foundation. He is a current Member of the Scientific Board of the Italian Patients Society of Paget’s Disease of Bone and a Member of the Editorial Boards of Osteoporosis International and the Journal of Bone and Mineral Research. His main research interests include calcium and phosphate metabolism, metabolic bone disease, Paget’s disease of bone, hereditary skeletal diseases, genetics, and endocrinology. He is an author of several publications in peer-reviewed journals and of chapters in several books on these and other related topics. In the same fields, he has lectured at both national and international meetings and received numerous research grants.
