Paola Bruni received the degree in biological sciences, summa cum laude, 1975. Bruni was a Researcher at the University of Florence, 1984, an Associate Professor of biochemistry at the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Florence, 1992, and a Full Professor of biochemistry at the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Florence, 2000. She is a Member of the Board of Professors of the Ph.D. Program in biochemistry and applied biology. Bruni was also the Dean of Biological Sciences M.A. Program in the years 2005–2008 and presently acts as the Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics, Physics and Natural Sciences of the University of Florence. She is a Principal Investigator of many research projects financed by the Italian MIUR (PRIN), Italian Telethon Foundation, Association Française Contre les Myopathies. Professor Bruni has accumulated a long experience in the study of cellular biochemistry with special attention to cell signaling and the relationship between membrane signaling biochemical events and cell functioning in different cell types. Her scientific interest is focused on the study of the action mechanism and biological role of sphingosine 1-phosphate signaling pathway in skeletal muscle cells and in stem cells.
