Petek Ballar was born in Mouscron, Turkey, in 1979. She received the B.S. degree from Ege University Faculty of Pharmacy in 2001 and the Ph.D. degree in molecular and cell biology from University of Maryland, Baltimore, USA in 2007. Since 2008, Ballar is working in Ege University, Faculty of Pharmacy, Biochemistry Department as group leader. Presently, she serves as an Assistant Professor. She is mainly interested in ubiquitin proteasome system, autophagy, and Endoplasmic Reticulum associated degradation. She received ASMBM Graduate/Postdoctoral Travel Award in 2005, UMBI Distinguished Service Award in 2007, Portland Press Young Investigator Award in 2008, Distinguished Young Scientist Award of the Turkish Academy of Sciences in 2008, and L’oreal Turkey Woman In Science Fellowship in 2010.
