Erik J. Balder

Erik J. Balder was born in Deventer, The Netherlands. He obtained his M.A. degree in applied mathematics from Eindhoven University of Technology with highest distinction. Subsequently, he studied as a Harkness Fellow at the University of California in Berkeley, where he obtained the Ph.D. degree in statistics. Since 1976, he has joined the Department of Mathematics, University of Utrecht, where he holds the Special Chair of Mathematical Economics and Decision Theory. He has held a number of visiting professorships, among which positions at CEREMADE, Université Paris-Dauphine, and at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He is or has been on the editorial boards of nine scientific journals in the areas of mathematics and economics, such as Journal of Convex Analysis, Games, Mathematics of Operations Research and Economic Theory.
