Alessio Aghemo received his medical degree from the University of Milan in 2001, where he also specialized in gastroenterology and later completed his postdoctoral research in gastroenterology by studying the mechanisms of Ribavirin induced anemia in patients with chronic hepatitis C. He currently works at the First Gastroenterology Unit at the Fondazione IRCCS Ca’ Granda, Ospedale Maggiore Policlinico, University of Milan, under the direction of Professor Massimo Colombo, where he is the Director of the hepatology outpatients clinic. Since 2007, Dr. Aghemo has been holding the position of Teaching Professor at the Postgraduate School of Gastroenterology and at the Medical School of the Università degli Studi di Milano. Dr. Aghemo is currently involved in many national and international clinical trials on the treatment of chronic hepatitis C virus infection. His current research interests focus on improving the individual prediction of treatment outcome in patients undergoing anti-HCV treatment.
