Achim Schlapbach

Achim Schlapbach received a diploma in chemistry from the Philipps University in Marburg, Germany in 1989, followed by a Ph.D. degree in 1992 under the supervision of Professor R.W. Hoffmann. Subsequently, he moved to the University of Cambridge, UK, where he worked on methodology for stereoselective synthesis and its application to natural product synthesis in the group of Professor Ian Paterson. In 1995, Schlapbach joined Sandoz Pharma, Switzerland which soon after became Novartis Pharma AG. He has been involved in numerous drug discovery projects in roles of increasing responsibility. Currently, he is a Senior Investigator and Chemistry Project Leader in the Global Discovery Chemistry group of the Novartis Institutes of Biomedical Research in Basel, Switzerland. Schlapbach's interest is focused on stereoselective synthesis, heterocyclic synthesis, and medicinal chemistry.
