Markus Schmid is a graduate in business administration. He holds a Diploma degree in food technology and an M.S. degree in food processing from Fulda University of Applied Sciences, Fulda, Germany. Since 2008, he is employed at the Fraunhofer Institute for Process Engineering and Packaging IVV in the Materials Development Department. As a scientist his major research areas are in the field of biopolymers in paper and film applications. He is actively involved in preparing project proposals and works as project manager in food packaging related public founded and industrial projects. He is lecturer on food packaging technology at his former alma mater and Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences, Osnabrück, Germany. He has guided numerous B.S. and M.S. degree students for their theses. He is author and coauthor of several publications in journals of high reputation and is regularly invited to speak at workshops and conferences. In addition he is the Head of Food Innovations, an engineering office providing consulting services for the food processing and food packaging sector.
