Jayasri Das Sarma is Associate Professor of the Department of Biological Sciences at Indian Institute of Science Education and Research-Kolkata. She is Adjunct Associate Professor, Department of Ophthalmology, University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, Pa, USA, and Adjunct Faculty, Department of Neurology and Pathology, Anatomy, and Cell Biology, Thomas Jefferson University, Philadelphia, Pa, USA. She received her Ph.D. degree from Jadavpur University, Kolkata, West Bengal, India. Her postdoctoral training was at the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, Pa, USA, where she trained herself in the field of neurovirology and cell biology. After completion of her postdoctoral training, she was hired as Assistant Professor in the Department of Neurology Thomas Jefferson University, Philadelphia, Pa, USA, where her research focused on viral induced neuroinflammation. She is one of the leading experts in the field of virus-induced neuroinflammation more specifically demyelination and axonal loss. She serves various national and international committees, and she is also Member of Review Editorial Board of Frontiers in Neuro-Ophthalmology, a specialty of Frontiers in Neurology (2010 till date), Journal of Neurology & Translational Neuroscience (2013 till date). She recently received American Society for Microbiology-IUSSTF Indo-US International Professor Award in collaboration with Denver School of Medicine, University of Colorado, USA, to set up the bilateral research relationship between India and USA.
