Ronaldo Seroa da Motta received a Ph.D. degree in economics from University College London, 1981–1985. Currently, da Motta is a Senior Researcher at the Research Institute for Applied Economics (IPEA) in Rio de Janeiro. His main research interests are economic regulation on energy, sanitation, water resources, climate change, biodiversity, and pollution issues; environmental valuation of nonmarket goods and services. He also serves as a Professor of economic and environmental regulation at IBMEC University in Rio de Janeiro. He was the former Director of the Ministry of the Environment. He is the current Review Editor of IPCC/AR5/WGIIII/Chapter 15 on “National and subnational policies and institutions” and former of CLA IPCC/AR3/WGIII/Chapter 7 on “Costing”; former Member of the UNEP International Working Group on Economic Instruments and of the Economics Task Team of the Global International Waters Assessment (GIWA).
