Koray Gumus received his M.D. degree with high honors from Hacettepe University School of Medicine, Ankara, Turkey, in 2000. He completed an ophthalmology residency at the Department of Ophthalmology at the same university, in 2004. He joined the Faculty of Ophthalmology Department, Erciyes University School of Medicine, Kayseri, Turkey, in 2005. He completed a postdoctoral research fellowship program at Ocular Surface Center at Baylor College of Medicine, Houston, TX, USA, between 2009 and 2010. He was promoted to Associate Professorship, in 2011, and he currently works at the Department of Ophthalmology, Erciyes University School of Medicine, Kayseri, Turkey. He is board-certified by the European Board of Ophthalmology, Turkish Board of Ophthalmology, and International Council of Ophthalmology. Gumus is an active Member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology, and the International Ocular Surface Society. He worked as a Coeditor at the Erciyes Medical Journal between 2007 and 2012. He currently serves as an Editorial Board Member of the World Journal of Clinical Cases and the Journal of Ocular Diseases and Therapeutics. Also, he works as a Board Member of the International Ocular Surface Society, Founder and Coordinator of the Young Ophthalmologist Committee of Turkish Ophthalmology Society, and TCOD-advisory board member of international examinations. Academically, Gumus has authored over 40 peer-reviewed journal publications and book chapters primarily in the field of ocular surface diseases. His main research interests include ocular surface diseases, contact lens applications, cataract, refractive surgery, and corneal transplantation.
