Magdalena Gherardi received the M.S. degree in biology and the Ph.D. degrees from the School of Biology, University of Buenos Aires, Argentina, in 1988 and 1994, respectively. From 1994 to 1997, she worked as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Centre of Pharmacological and Botanical Studies, CONICET, Buenos Aires. From 1997 to 1999 and 2001 to 2004, Dr. Gherardi was a Visiting Senior Research Scientist at the National Centre of Biotechnology, CSIC, Madrid, Spain, focusing her research on the fields of viral immunology and vaccine development. Since 1999, she has been a member of the Research Career from the National Council of Science and Technology. Since 2005, she has been a Scientific Collaborator and an Independent Group Leader at the National Reference Centre of AIDS, Buenos Aires, Argentina. Dr. Gherardi has received research support acting as the principal researcher, from different national and international institutions. Dr. Gherardi was a Reviewer of different journals as Vaccine, Genetic Vaccines and Therapy, Virus Research, Gene Therapy, and Journal of Virological Methods. She was a Member of the selection committee of abstracts of the National Society of Immunology of Argentina, from 2007 to 2009. She acts as an Evaluator of the Research Career from the National Council of Science and Technology. Her research interests include development of viral vectors expressing HIV genes, immunization strategies aimed to induce mucosal immune responses, and evaluation of HIV specific cellular immune responses in different cohorts of persons.
