Ryuji Sakakibara received his M.D. degree from Asahikawa Medical College, Asahikawa, Japan, in 1984. He moved to Chiba University, Chiba, Japan, where he subsequently worked as an Assistant Professor and a Lecturer at the Department of Neurology. He completed his Ph.D. degree at the Department of Neurology, Chiba University, Chiba, Japan in 1992. From 1997 to 1998, he was a Research Fellow at the Department of Uroneurology, National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, the UCL Institute of Neurology, London, UK. In March 2007, he worked as an Associate Professor at the Department of Neurology, Toho University, Sakura Medical Center, Sakura, Japan. He is a Member of many international societies including the American Academy of Neurology, the Association of British Neurologists, the Movement Disorders Society, the International Society for Autonomic Neuroscience, the European Federation of Autonomic Societies, the American Autonomic Society, the International Continence Society, and the International Consultation on Incontinence. He also serves as an Ad Hoc Reviewer of several journals including the Neuroscience Letters, the Journal of Neurology, Neurosurgery and Psychiatry, the Journal of Neurology, the European Journal of Neurology, Movement Disorders, Muscle and Nerve, Urology, the Journal of Urology, Clinical Physiology, and the American Journal of Physiological Medicine. During his career, he has authored more than 180 articles in peer-reviewed international journals. His research interests include neurourology, neurogastroenterology, autonomic physiology, drug trials, and clinical neurology including Parkinson’s disease and multiple system atrophy.
