Gino Soldati received the M.D. degree from the University of Pisa, Italy. He works as a General Surgeon and as the Director of Operative Unit of Emergency Medicine of VdS General Hospital in Lucca. His clinical and research interests include trauma and critical care. He is mainly interested in ultrasound in emergency and critical care, and chest ultrasound in its diagnostic and operative applications. He has published many peer-reviewed and non-peer-reviewed articles and ten chapters in emergency medicine, critical care and ultrasound books. He published in 2006 the first Italian book on chest ultrasound. Actually, his research field is the knowledge and the clinical applications of sonographic signals from pathologic lung in terms of tissue density (lung acoustic spectroscopy). He is Member of “Società Italiana di Medicina d’Emergenza Urgenza” and of its Ultrasound Committee. He is the Founder and a Member of the WINFOCUS (World Interactive Network Focused on Critical Ultrasound) since 2005, an Expert Panelist of the Scientific Committee of the first International Consensus Conference on Lung Ultrasound 2010-2011, and a Member of the Editorial Board of Critical Ultrasound Journal. He serves as a teacher of emergency ultrasound at Catholic University of Rome and as a Clinical Tutor of diagnostic and operative ultrasound for residents of pulmonary medicine.
