Elisabeth Bloemena serves as a Professor of oral pathology at the Academic Centre of Dentistry Amsterdam (ACTA), The Netherlands. She studied medicine at the University of Amsterdam, The Netherlands and became an M.D. in 1983. In 1989, she defended her Ph.D. thesis "Immunosuppressive mechanisms of prednisolone and cyclosporin A". From 1990 till 1992, she served as a Head of the Oncopathological Laboratory of the Department of Pathology at the Free University Hospital in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. Since 1996, she works as Clinical Pathologist at the Department of Pathology, VU University Medical Center, Amsterdam, The Netherlands. She is specialized in gastrointestinal and liver pathology and oral and head and neck pathology. She is involved in research concerning diagnostics and prognostics of salivary gland tumors, (pre)malignant lesions of the head-and-neck squamous epithelium and the function of the Epstein-Barr virus in carcinomas and malignant lymphomas.
