David Liley was born in Canberra, Australia in 1964. He received a B.S. degree in human biology and an M.S. degree in human biology (pathology) in 1986 and 1989, respectively, from the University of Auckland. In 1991, he graduated in medicine and surgery receiving an MB.ChB. degree and in 1996, received his Ph.D. degree (psychiatry/mathematics) both also from the University of Auckland. Currently, he is the Chief Technical Officer of Cortical Dynamics Ltd and an Associate Professor within the Brain and Psychological Sciences Research Centre at Swinburne University of Technology in Melbourne. His main interests are in mean field modeling approaches to understanding macroscopic brain dynamics, in particular the dynamics of the electroencephalogram during anesthesia.
