Arnold Mitnitski
Arnold Mitnitski was born in Russia. He received his M.Eng. degree in engineering from St. Petersburg, Russia, and his Ph.D. degree in theoretical mechanics (dynamics and control), in 1974. Since then, he worked in different applications of mathematical modeling and data analysis in biomedicine, including cellular metabolism macrokinetics, numerical taxonomy, optimization of antibiotics technology, and so on. He moved to Montreal in 1992 and worked at the Ecole Polytechnique and the Institute of Rehabilitation in Modeling (biomechanics of motor control). He moved to Halifax in 2002 at the Department of Medicine, Dalhousie University. He is presently an Associate Professor of medicine and also holds cross appointments at the Departments of Mathematics and Statistics, Community Health and Epidemiology, and the Faculty of Computer Science. He is a Member of the American Gerontological Society, Canadian Geriatric Society, and British Society for Research on Ageing. His research interests and expertise include stochastic and nonlinear deterministic models, complex networks in biomedicine, advanced data analysis including data mining, quantitative approaches to health, aging, and frailty. He is a coauthor (with Professor Kenneth Rockwood) regarding the concept of frailty index as a general characteristic of health and aging.
