Gobinda Saha is a Materials Research Associate at Westpower Equipment Ltd. in Calgary, AB, Canada, and an Adjunct Associate Professor in the Department of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering at the University of Calgary, Calgary, AB, Canada. Between January 2007 and September 2010, he was employed as a Senior R&D Engineer at Hyperion Technologies Inc. in Calgary, AB, Canada. He received his Ph.D. degree in mechanical engineering (composite materials) from Dalhousie University, Halifax, NS, Canada, in 2005. His current research activities are primarily focused on design, synthesis, fabrication, and characterization of nanostructured materials systems; development of nanostructured HVOF coatings, surface, and interface engineering; material microstructure-process-property relationships; and micromechanical modeling, analysis, characterization, and assessment of smart composites and structures. His research results have been disseminated in numerous international peer-reviewed journals and conference proceedings publications. Saha is currently supervising a team of engineers at Westpower, one doctoral student, and one postdoctoral fellow at the University of Calgary. Through his collaborative research at the same university, Saha has attracted significant funding from the industry and the Government of Alberta. He is a Founding Member of the joint Canada-USA Regulatory Cooperation Council (RCC) on developing strategies for nanomaterials including risk assessment and management and uses of industrial nanomaterials and has served as the Chair of the Composites and Heterogeneous Materials Technical Committee of the ASME Materials Division. Saha is on the Editorial Board of the Journal of Chemistry and has served as a Guest Editor of the ASME Journal of Engineering Materials and Technology.
