Javier Alvarez

Javier Alvarez was born in Valladolid, Spain, in 1958. He received his M.D., B.S., and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Valladolid, Spain, in 1981, 1983, and 1984, respectively. He has been a Professor of biochemistry and molecular biology, Faculty of Medicine, University of Valladolid, Spain, since 2002. He was an Assistant Professor (1982–1988) and an Associate Professor (1988–2002) of biochemistry and molecular biology, University of Valladolid, Spain. His research specialties include Ca2+ signaling at cellular and subcellular level, in particular Ca2+ signaling in mitochondria, endoplasmic reticulum, and secretory granules; mechanisms of intracellular Ca2+ transport and distribution; and luminescence and microfluorescence techniques to investigate intracellular Ca2+ dynamics.
