Shigeki Machida was born in Sendai, Japan, in 1963. He graduated from Iwate Medical University (IMU), Japan in 1989. He received the Ph.D. degree from IMU in 1994. From 1998 to 2000, he was a Research Fellow at Kellogg Eye Center, University of Michigan, Mich, USA. Presently, he is an Associate Professor of ophthalmology at Department of Ophthalmology, IMU. In the research field, he is specialized in the electroretinography and retinal degeneration. He also works for IMU as a Retinal Specialist and treats patients with various retinal diseases, including age-related macular degeneration, retinal detachment, and diabetic retinopathy. Since 2005, he has been a Board Member of the Japanese Society of Clinical Electrophysiology of Vision (JSCEV). He was a President of the annual meeting of JSCEV in 2010 in Morioka, Iwate.
