Sotirios G. Papageorgiou

Sotirios G. Papageorgiou servws as a Consultant Hematologist at the Hematology Division and Bone Marrow Transplant Unit of the 2nd Department of Internal Medicine of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens School of Medicine at Attikon University Hospital in Athens,Athens,Greece. He graduated from the Medical School of Athens University,Athens,Greece in 1998. From February 2002 to February 2008 he completed his training in Hematology at the Second Department of Internal Medicine at Attikon University Hospital. In March 2004 he obtained his M.D. degree with his thesis on the detection of p16 and p27 gene abnormalities in myelodysplastic syndromes. From January 2011 to March 2012 he worked as a Clinical and Research Fellow at the Academic Department of Hematology and Bone Marrow Transplant Unit at Royal Free Hospital in London, UK, having been awarded a joint fellowship by the Hellenic Foundation of Hematology and Royal Free Hospital and has completed a successful attachment at the clinical bone marrow transplantation training programme of the same Unit, that fulfills the JACIE accreditation criteria. His research interests include the molecular mechanisms of myeloid and lymphoid malignancies. He is a Member of the Hellenic Society of Hematology and the European Hematology Association. He has more than 50 presentations at international congresses and he has published more than 40 original and review articles in peer-reviewed scientific journals.
