Serafino Fazio was born on February 5th, 1950 in Naples, Italy. In 1974 he received the Certificate of Licensure in Medicine, and in 1978, the Italian Board of Cardiovascular Diseases Certificate. During 1975–1978 he was a fellow in cardiology, and from 1978 to 1983 he was a fellow of internal medicine. He was appointed as Research Associate in internal medicine in 1980, and since 2002, Fazio has been Associate Professor of internal medicine at the Department of Internal Medicine, Cardiovascular and Immunologic Sciences. His major research interests include the role of growth hormone and insulin-line growth factor-1 in cardiovascular physiology and as potential therapeutic agents in cardiac diseases, thyroid hormone and the heart, acromegalic cardiopathy, cardiac function and thromboembolic events in patients with cardiac pacemakers, obesity and the heart, pulmonary hypertension, and nutraceuticals in metabolic diseases.
