Bernard Ryffel received the M.D. degree in pathology in 1978 from the University of Bern, Bern, Switzerland. He obtained the Ph.D. degree in drug safety and pharma-toxicology at Sondoz, Basel, Switzerland, in 1990. He worked as a Professor of pharma-toxicology at the University of Zürich from 1991 to 1995 and as Professor of Immunology at University of Cape Town from 1996 to 2000. He served as a Director at CNRS in Orleans, France, from 2001 to 2006, and since 2002, he has been serving as the CSO of PhenoTec AG, Zug and Orleans. His main research focus is on the regulation of inflammation and infectious diseases. Ryffel has 330 scientific publications, and he is a Member of the American Society of Immunology and Pathology and the American Thoracic Society.
