Franco Roviello obtained his M.D. degree in 1987. Since 1987, he has been a Fellow at the Second Department of Surgery, University of Siena. Since 1991, he has been a Senior Staff Surgeon and an Associate Professor F08A at the Unit of Surgical Oncology, Department of Human Pathology and Oncology. He has several teaching appointments concerning oncologic surgery at the training program for general surgery (since 1999); neoplastic pathology of GI tract (since 1999); optional course of surgical oncology (since 2001). Roviello’s field of interest is surgical oncology with a complete integration of modern knowledge on oncology, radiation therapy, and molecular biology. Since 1989, he has established a large tissue and plasma bank with 700 cases of gastric cancer, tumor markers clinical use and followup, H. pylori, and gastric cancerogenesis. He has a collaboration with Professor Steven Powell, Virginia University, on microsatellite instability and gastric cancer. In 1998, he has founded IGCLA (International Gastric Cancer Linkage Analysis) for the study of hereditary diffuse gastric cancer, Cambridge, UK. He has founded Italian Research Group on Gastric Cancer. Roviello is a promoter of advanced surgical oncology as chemohyperthermia. He is author or coauthor of 150 papers of which 136 are on impacted journals.
