Michel Quintel serves as a Professor of anesthesia and intensive care medicine at the University of Göttingen. He is actually a director of a 44-bed surgical ICU taking care of roughly 4,000 patients per year. After completion of his degree in medicine and postgraduate training in anesthesia and intensive care at the University of Heidelberg/Mannheim Quintel worked as research fellow in Bob Bartlett’s ECMO laboratories at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor where he gained experience in extracorporeal lung support techniques as well as in lung injury related experimental research. He is member of the board of directors of the German Society of Anesthesia and Intensive Care Medicine (DGAI), German representative in the council of the European Society of Intensive Care Medicine (ESICM), and the German representative in the CobaTrIce program (competence based training in intensive care) an initiative to synchronize and improve training in intensive care medicine across Europe. Quintel published numerous papers in peer-reviewed journals and lectures internationally on intensive care with special emphasis on prevention and treatment of acute lung injury and ARDS.
