Emilio Varea

Emilio Varea Varea works as an Assistant Professor of cell biology at the University of Valencia. He received his degree in biochemistry from the University of Valencia. After a stay in the Anatomy Institute of Aarhus University (Denmark) with Professor Gorm Danscher and the Oncology Research Institute in Barcelona (Spain) with Professor Mara Dierssen, he finished his Ph.D. degree at the Department of Cell Biology at the University of Valencia. Then he moved to the Brain and Mind Institute in the EPFL (Lausanne, Switzerland) with Professor Carmen Sandi and to the Neurosciences Institute in Alicante (Spain) with Professor Pere Berbel. Finally, he got a position at the Department of Cell Biology in the University of Valencia. He has published more than 30 articles about structural plasticity, adult neurogenesis, and Down Syndrome. Currently, he is the Head of a research group that analyses the alterations in the brain of Ts65Dn mice, a model for Down Syndrome and possible therapies to revert those alterations.
