Michael Wimmer received an M.S. degree in 1997 and a Ph.D. degree in 2001. Since 2008, he serves as an Associate Professor at the Vienna University of Technology. His most well-known research achievements are in the areas of shadow rendering (Light Space Perspective Shadow Maps; Real-Time Shadows Course at Siggraph Asia, coauthor of Real-Time Shadows book to be released at Siggraph 2011), visibility (Guided and Adaptive Global Visibility Sampling), animation (Physically Guided Animation of Trees) and procedural modeling (Interactive Visual Editing of Grammars for Procedural Architecture). His current research interests are real-time rendering and global illumination, computer games, real-time visualization of large (urban) environments, point-based rendering, and procedural modeling. He served as General Chair of Graphics Hardware 2006, Papers Cochair of EGSR 2008, and Rregular Member of the EGSR, I3D and EUROGRAPHICS program committees and serves as Associate Editor of Computers & Graphics.
