Alex Veldman, F.R.A.C.P., holds a position as Director in the Global Clinical Research & Development at CSL Behring in Marburg, Germany, after working for 4 years as Consultant Neonatologist in the Monash Newborn Melbourne, VIC, Australia. He is holding an additional appointment as Adjunct Associate Professor in the Faculty of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences at Monash University, Clayton, VIC, Australia. Veldman completed a 6-year training program in general pediatrics at the J.W. Goethe University Hospital, Frankfurt, Germany, achieved board certification in pediatrics in 2004, and was board certified as a neonatologist in 2005. Afterwards, he completed training in pediatric cardiology in one of the busiest pediatric heart centers in Europe and achieved board certification as pediatric cardiologist in 2009. His research interest is focused on coagulation disturbances in the critically ill pediatric and neonatal patient, and he published an excess of 45 MEDLINE's listed papers receiving > 450 citations, several book chapters, > 40 abstracts, and > 55 presentations on international meetings and conferences. Veldman was involved in design, execution, and data analysis of numerous clinical trials as CI and PI and served on advisory boards of some major pharmaceutical companies where he gained invaluable experience in translational medicine, drug development, and analyzing areas of medical need and market opportunity. He served as Chief Medical Officer of a small biotech start-up company, Orphatec, Cologne, Germany, where he was involved in trial design and execution, US-FDA and EMEA pre-IND and IND meetings, negotiation of orphan drug designation, and capital raising activities with several pharmaceutical companies and other investors.
