P. J. O'Dwyer
P. J. O'Dwyer, M.D., Ph.D., works as a Professor of surgery at Glasgow University and as a Consultant Surgeon at the Western Infirmay and Gartnavel Hospitals. His clinical interests include management of soft tissue tumours of the abdomen and pelvis, adrenal tumours, advanced colorectal cancer, and abdominal wall hernias. His unit is a tertiary referral center for abdominal sarcomas in Scotland, while his experience with laparoscopic adrenalectomy is one of the largest in UK. His research interests include trials in surgery. He has been serving as a Principal Investigator in many clinical trials which has included comparing laparoscopic with open surgery in patients requiring cholecystectomy and hernia repair. He has published over 120 papers in peer-reviewed journals, and he has written 10 editorials and reviews and around 20 book chapters. He is a Member of many societies including The European Association of Endoscopic Surgeons. He serves currently as the President of the British Hernia Society and also on the Scientific Committee of the Association of Surgeons of Great Britain and Ireland. He serves as an External Examiner for final MB at University College, Dublin, and Queens University, Belfast, and also as an Examiner for the Intercollegiate Speciality Board in Surgery.
