Rodrigo E. Mendes
Dr. Mendes directs the Molecular Section at JMI Laboratories and the investigations into bacterial mechanisms of resistance for surveillance as well as clinical trial support studies. Dr. Mendes has degrees in Pharmaceutical with a specialization in Clinical Laboratory Science, a Masters degree in Infectious Disease, and a Doctoral (Ph.D.) degree earned in 2005. During the Ph.D. program, he trained both at the Federal University of São Paulo (Division of Infectious Disease) and at the University of Bristol, United Kingdom (Department of Cellular and Molecular Medicine). Dr. Mendes was previously employed as a Research Scientist for Genaco Biomedical Products, Inc. (a Qiagen subsidiary) where he developed molecular diagnostic tests using a proprietary PCR-based multiplexing technology. His areas of expertise consist of clinical microbiology, molecular microbiology and epidemiology. Dr. Mendes has authored or co-authored many recent peer reviewed publications and numerous poster and oral presentations at international meetings. Dr. Mendes is also a member of the Microbial Drug Resistance Editorial Board and serves as an ad hoc reviewer for several other microbiology journals.
