Peirong Jiao is an Associate Professor of animal infectious diseases at the College of Veterinary Medicine, South China Agricultural University, Guangzhou, China. He received his Ph.D. degree in preventive veterinary medicine from the Harbin Veterinary Research Institute, Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS), Harbin, China, in 2007. From 2002 to 2007, he studied the pathogenesis and evolution of H5N1 avian influenza viruses in China at the National Avian Influenza Reference Laboratory of the same institute. His research interests include the pathogenesis, host range, and host innate immune responses of avian influenza viruses in mammals and poultry, new vaccine, and the evolution of avian influenza viruses isolated from poultry.
