Jeremy P. T. Ward was born in Sussex, UK, in 1953. He received his B.S. degree in physiology and zoology from the University of London, UK, and in 1982, he received his Ph.D. degree from St Thomas Hospital Medical School, University of London, UK, which was focussed on ion homeostasis of cardiac muscle. Following four years as a Lecturer at St George’s Hospital Medical School in London, he returned to St Thomas as a Lecturer in physiology. Currently, he is a Professor of respiratory cell physiology and the Head of the Department of Physiology at King’s College London. He is a member of the Division of Asthma, Allergy and Lung Biology at King’s, and his research is focussed on the physiology of smooth muscle in the lung, specifically the mechanisms of hypoxic pulmonary vasoconstriction and pulmonary vascular regulation and also regulation of human airway smooth muscle function in health and disease. He is currently a Member of the Executive committee of the Physiology Society (UK) and the Chair of its External Relations Policy Committee, and previously he held the post of a Treasurer for the society. He is currently a Consulting Editor for Cardiovascular Research and on the Editorial Boards of Pulmonary Pharmacology and Therapeutics and AJP Lung Cellular and Molecular Physiology.
