Masafumi Ihara, M.D., Ph.D., is an Attending Neurologist and a Neuroscientist in the Department of Regenerative Medicine Research, Institute of Biomedical Research and Innovation, Kobe, Japan. He is a fellow of the American College of Physicians and the Japanese Society of Neurology. His research interests have focused on the pathological changes in brain blood vessels and how the alterations affect brain health during old age. Ihara has used brain autopsy materials and experimental rodent models to publish widely on these issues. He is currently involved in a translational research project related to regenerative therapy for stroke in collaboration with the National Cerebral and Cardiovascular Center and planning a clinical trial for dementia.
