Ralph P. Cooney
Ralph P. Cooney has current research interests in advanced materials and specifically in conducting polymers. He is serving currently as the Director of two major government-funded research programs: The Materials Accelerator and Hybrid Anti-microbial Polymers. Both of these programs involve substantive R&D partnerships with international and national companies. The Materials Accelerator involves a network of 8 partner universities and government laboratories across New Zealand and includes about 100 applied materials researchers. Professor Cooney was formerly the Head of the Department of Chemistry, as well as the Dean of Science, Pro-Vice Chancellor, and the Head of the University of Auckland, Tamaki Campus. He has also served as government nominee as a Company Director and Ministerials Advisor as well as the Chair of the Science Advisory Panel for Scion Research Ltd., and the Chair of the Judges Panel for the Environmental Awards for the NZ Packaging Council. His scientific background includes Raman, IR, and other surface studies of electrode surfaces, colloids, zeolites, and other oxide substrates. He has published about 250 papers.
