Wim Groot

Wim Groot serves as a Professor of health economics at Maastricht University since 1998 and Professor of evidence-based education at Maastricht University since 2008. He cofounded the Top Institute Evidence Based Education Research (TIER) with Henriëtte Maassen van den Brink and is Director of the Teachers Academy at Maastricht University. From 1980 to 1986, he studied economics and philosophy at the University of Amsterdam. He obtained his M.S. degree in economics in 1986. In 1992, he obtained his Ph.D. degree from the same university. As author and coauthor, he published more than 150 articles in national and international academic journals and books. He has written over 200 reports, newspaper articles, and columns. He is a Columnist for Het Financieele Dagblad and Observant of HO Management. He received several research grants from The Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research (NWO). He held visiting positions at Stanford University, Cornell University, University of California at Berkely, Monash University, and European University Institute in Florence. In 2004, he was awarded an honorary doctorate at the National University of “Kyiv-Mohyla Academy” in Kiev, Ukraine. He is Crown Member of the Council of Public Health and Care (RVZ).
