Wilson C. Mertens
Wilson C. Mertens, M.D. degree holder, is the Medical Director at Cancer Services, Baystate Regional Cancer Program, Springfield, MA, USA and Associate Professor of Medicine at School of Medicine, Tufts University, Boston, MA, USA. He completed his undergraduate and medical training at The University of Western Ontario, London, Canada. A medical oncologist, Dr. Mertens has specialty board certifications from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and the American Board of Internal Medicine. He also holds a M.S. degree in business administration from Madonna University, Livonia, Michigan. His previous positions include Director of Biometry and Outcome Measurement, London Regional Cancer Center, and Director of Quality Assurance and Associate Professor of Medicine at the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute at Wayne State University, Detroit. He is widely published in the areas of sarcoma, genitourinary malignancy, and breast cancer management. Dr. Mertens’ current research interests include medical management topics, and cancer patient supportive care. He recently led a cancer program reengineering effort incorporating the construction of a purpose-built, integrated ambulatory cancer center employing the tenets of Pine and Gilmore’s Experience Economy, which was recognized by the American Society of Healthcare Engineering with a 2005 VISTA award.
