Dariusz J. Skarzynski, a holder of the DVM, Ph.D., and D.S. (1963) degrees, is the Head of Department of Reproductive Immunology and Pathology and Scientific Director of the Institute of Animal Reproduction and Food Research of PAS, Olsztyn, Poland. His expertise and current research fields include endocrinology and immunology of reproduction in domestic animals: immunoendocrine, cellular, and molecular regulations of the release and action of cytokines and arachidonic acid metabolites in the female reproductive tract; immunoendocrine mechanisms controlling embryo-maternal interactions; regulation of angiogenesis and apoptosis in the female reproductive tract; experimental models for the study of early embryo mortality and endometrial fibrosis in mares and cows. He is the author and coauthor 3 scientific books and more than 130 scientific papers. He has several professional memberships as follows: (1) Member of Editorial Boards of Journal of Reproduction and Development and Reproductive Biology; (2) President of the Society for Biology of Reproduction (Poland) and the Member of Society for the Study of Reproduction (USA), Society for Experimental Biology and Medicine (USA), and Polish Society of Veterinary Sciences; (3) Member of the Council of the National Center for Research and Development (Poland). He is a Postdoctoral Fellow of the JSPS, Okayama University, Japan (1997–1999, 2 years), Visiting Professor, Okayama University, Japan (2003, 2006, 2008, and 2011, in total of 12 months), and Visiting Professor, Technical University of Lisbon, Portugal (2008–2012, in total of 6 months). His fields of interest are cell culture and biotechnology, biotechniques and biotechnology of reproduction, molecular biology, and immunodiagnostic.
