Martin H. Villet
Martin H. Villet is a Professor of entomology at Rhodes University, where he lectures to all academic years, and is also Director of the Southern African Forensic Entomology Research Laboratory (SAFER Lab). He is an Honorary Research Fellow at the South African Institute for Aquatic Biodiversity (SAIAB) and Scientific Editor of African Entomology, the journal of the Entomological Society of Southern Africa, of which he is a Life Member. His research encompasses systematics and phylogeography, principally of cicadas (Hemiptera: Cicadidae), and forensic entomology. The SAFER laboratory is one of the few academically active forensic entomology centres in Africa. He has published over 100 papers and made over 100 presentations at national and international conferences. His teaching experience includes nearly 15 years of undergraduate entomology lecturing at Rhodes University and he has graduated 15 postgraduate students. He has led community-based service learning projects and appeared on wildlife programmes on television, published popular articles, and given public lectures on forensic entomology.
