Jukka Jolkkonen was born in Joensuu, Finland, in 1959. He received his M.S. degree (1983) and Ph.D. degree (1990) and docentship (1995) from University of Kuopio. He worked as Research Assistant, Department of Neurology, University of Kuopio (1982-85); Research Chemist, Vaajasalo Hospital (1986-1993); Visiting Research Fellow, King's College, Pharmacology Group, London, UK (1991-1993); Research Fellow, AIVirtanen Institute, University of Kuopio (1995-1996); Consultant, Clinical Research Unit, University of Kuopio (1996-2000); Consultant, Critical Care Research Program, University Hospital of Kuopio (1996-2000); Scientific Adviser, CNServices Ltd. (2002-present) and Group Leader, Stroke Recovery Laboratory, University of Kuopio (1997-2005). Presently, Jolkkonen is a Research Director, Stroke Recovery Laboratory, University of Eastern Finland. The research in Jukka Jolkkonen laboratory has been focused on the neuronal plasticity, recovery of function after stroke, and restorative therapies.
